(Bloomberg) — Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy visited Athens Monday for talks with leaders of Western Balkan nations and top European Union officials on the bloc’s enlargement process.
Zelenskiy earlier spoke in front of the parliament in Copenhagen and thanked the Danish people for their support for his nation’s defense against Russia’s invasion, including the 19 F-16 fighter jets pledged at the weekend. “Today we are confident that Russia will lose this war,” Zelenskiy said.
Russia said its air defenses downed two Ukrainian drones over the Moscow region early Monday in the latest foray by uncrewed aerial vehicles into Kremlin territory. Strikes deep inside Russia are strategically important because President Vladimir Putin “almost certainly invaded Ukraine on the assumption that it would have little direct effect on Russians,” according to the UK Ministry of Defence.
