(Bloomberg) — Russia fired a barrage of missiles and drones from the Black Sea at Ukraine overnight, mainly targeting infrastructure in the southern Odesa region, the Ukrainian Air Force command said on Facebook.
In total, Russian forces fired 31 missiles from ships, strategic bombers and land-based launchers as well as 32 drones. Ukrainian forces downed less than half of all the missiles aimed at the Odesa region. Officials didn’t comment on any damage from the attack.
General Mark Milley, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters the biggest challenge for Ukraine’s counteroffensive is getting through Russia’s “extensive” defensive lines of minefields, not a lack of sufficient airpower. Ukraine has pushed for more rapid action by the US and other nations to supply fighter jets including F-16s.
