Ukraine Recap: New Peace-Formula Push Expected at Malta Meeting

Ukraine will continue its effort to build support for a peace formula with the so-called Global South as Malta hosts a gathering of senior officials to discuss the blueprint, the third such meeting this year. The Oct. 28-29 event aims to secure the “broadest possible international support” for the 10-point plan, Malta’s foreign ministry said.

(Bloomberg) — Ukraine will continue its effort to build support for a peace formula with the so-called Global South as Malta hosts a gathering of senior officials to discuss the blueprint, the third such meeting this year. The Oct. 28-29 event aims to secure the “broadest possible international support” for the 10-point plan, Malta’s foreign ministry said. 

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy visited troops in the Kherson region in Ukraine’s south. Ukraine’s leader spoke on Thursday with President Joe Biden as the US leader made a rare Oval Office address to urge support for funding war efforts in Israel and Ukraine. Zelenskiy also spoke on Friday with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. 

Ukrainian army chief Valeriy Zaluzhnyi on Thursday visited frontline troops near Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region and Avdiivka in the Donetsk region. Moscow’s forces continue to press on Avdiivka with new assault units, large quantities of tanks and support from aviation and artillery, Zaluzhnyi said on Telegram. Ukraine repelled more than 30 attacks around Kupyansk and continues assault operations south of Bakhmut.
