(Bloomberg) — Group of Seven leaders are prepared to support Ukraine for as long as it takes, Canada’s prime minister said in an interview. “We’ve always known this was going to be a long process,” said Justin Trudeau. “We are ready for a war that will take as long as it needs to.” His comments follow a series of reports this month that Kyiv’s allies worry the war, now into its 19th month, is dragging on with hopes fading for the counteroffensive to yield a definitive breakthrough against Russia. Some allies also reportedly have questioned Ukraine’s tactics and allocation of troops.

The Kremlin and its allies on Friday rejected allegations by the US that Wagner group founder Yevgeny Prigozhin was taken out in a hit  approved by President Vladimir Putin. President Joe Biden told reporters on Friday that the US is “trying to nail down precisely” what happened to Prigozhin’s plane.

Ukraine’s troops continued to press in the Melitopol region on Friday, the General Staff said on Facebook. The UK defense ministry confirmed Kyiv’s pressure in Bakhmut and southern Ukraine in a daily update. “Russia’s doctrine suggests that it will attempt to regain the initiative by pivoting back to an operational level offensive. Kupiansk-Lyman is one potential area for this,” the UK said. Russia took down a drone in the Belgorod region north of the Ukrainian border, its defense ministry said. Earlier, three Moscow airports were briefly halted as air defense shot down a combat drone near the capital.
