(Bloomberg) — A gas explosion on Paris’ left bank late Wednesday afternoon destroyed the facade of a building and left at least 16 people wounded.
Seven of those were in critical condition, Le Parisien newspaper reported, citing the police.
The explosion occurred near the Val de Grace church, prompting fires in nearby buildings.
Edouard Civel, an official from the 5th arrondissement, where the incident took place, asked residents in a tweet to stay away in order to allow firefighters to operate.
Mayor Anne Hidalgo arrived at the scene shortly after the incident.
