Palantir’s CEO Says European Nations Need to ‘Get Serious’ About Tech Development

Palantir Technologies Inc. Chief Executive Officer Alex Karp called on Europe to “get serious” about technological development, speaking at a summit in the Hague on Wednesday.

(Bloomberg) — Palantir Technologies Inc. Chief Executive Officer Alex Karp called on Europe to “get serious” about technological development, speaking at a summit in the Hague on Wednesday.

“It’s not good for our Western alliance, where America is providing all the high-value revenue,” Karp said.

The Palantir CEO also called for more investment in AI software within the defense budgets of Western countries. “It doesn’t have to be a huge part of your budget, but it can’t be 1%,” Karp said at a conference on the applications of artificial intelligence for defense. “We are just still operating in a world where most of our efforts are focused on hardware.”

When Palantir reported earnings on Monday, Karp expressed frustration over its European sales growth. Palantir makes data analysis tools for governments and private companies. “You just have a lack of receptivity to new technology in parts of Europe,” he said.

At the conference, Karp added that, alongside their own development, European countries need to be spending on technology that is already available.

“I believe sovereignty is a crucial issue for every country in this room, especially the large countries in Europe,” Karp said. “And I support that. But there also has to be a realistic assessment of what can I get now and what can I get tomorrow.”
