(Bloomberg) — Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is visiting Libyan capital Tripoli on Saturday, as part of an effort to bolster energy and migration ties with the north African country.

The visit comes on the day that oil giant Eni SpA is expected to sign an $8-billion investment in Libyan gas fields, as part of a broader strategy to secure more oil and gas from North Africa. She also aims to reinforce security ties aimed at reducing illegal immigration across the Mediterranean to Italy.

Meloni will meet with Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, who leads the Tripoli-based administration that controls part of the country. Fathi Bashagha leads another administration based in the central city of Sirte. She will also meet with the head of the presidential council, Mohammed Yunis Ahmed al-Menfi.

The Italian prime minister is accompanied by the foreign and interior ministers, as well as by Eni’s Executive Officer Claudio Descalzi.
