The attack in the southwest from the Gaza-based militant group Hamas, which started Saturday, has killed more than 700 Israelis, mostly civilians. Some 500 Palestinians have been killed in retaliatory attacks, Palestinian authorities said. Israel announced its largest-ever mobilization, more than 300,000 army reservists, as Defense Minister Yoav Gallant vowed the elimination of all Hamas targets.
The conflict risks stoking a shadow war with Iran and triggering a wider regional conflict. The shekel dropped despite a huge support package from the central bank, and oil jumped. Israel’s Ashkelon port — used mostly by tankers — isn’t operating.
