Harlan Crow Remains Major Republican Donor Despite Supreme Court Controversy

(Bloomberg) — Billionaire Harlan Crow remained a major donor to state and federal Republican politics, despite the ongoing controversy surrounding his relationship with Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

The Dallas real estate mogul donated more than $200,000 to six state politicians in Texas in June, including Governor Greg Abbott and House Speaker Dade Phelan, according to July filings.

He’s also waded into federal politics by co-hosting a fundraising dinner for presidential hopeful Nikki Haley in June as well as donating to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s campaign.

The contributions come as Crow, a long-time GOP donor, has been thrust into the spotlight following a ProPublica report in April that showed he had taken Thomas on luxury trips for years and given gifts to his family.

On the state level, Crow also contributed to Republicans Jeff Leach, a Texas lawmaker, and Railroad Commissioner Christi Craddick. On the federal level, Crow’s second quarter contributions went to several candidates who have been critical of former President Donald Trump. Crow and his wife’s $6,600 donation to DeSantis was the maximum contribution to a candidate for the primary.

He also gave to several House Republicans, who called to censure Trump including Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania and Dan Crenshaw of Texas, who has said that people who spread Trump’s claims that Joe Biden actually lost the presidential election are liars.

Despite the scrutiny, Crow’s business interests appear to be booming: Crow Holdings, the real estate and development firm he ran for almost 30 years, is expanding across the US with office, industrial and residential builds.
