DBS Says Banking Services Disrupted Because of Data Center Issue

DBS Group Holdings Ltd. in Singapore said customers were unable to access banking facilities on Saturday, weeks after the lender encountered delays in processing transactions on its PayNow service.

(Bloomberg) — DBS Group Holdings Ltd. in Singapore said customers were unable to access banking facilities on Saturday, weeks after the lender encountered delays in processing transactions on its PayNow service.

“Our investigations indicate that the service disruption was caused by an issue at a data centre which is also being used by various other organisations,” DBS said on its Facebook page. “We are doing our utmost to swing over to our backup data centre, and expect to progressively restore services from 7 p.m. today.”

The latest disruption follows delays experienced by the bank’s customers last month in processing transactions on its PayNow service. In May, officials imposed higher capital requirements on DBS, Singapore’s largest lender, following glitches with its online services that the regulator called “unacceptable.”

“Please be assured that our systems are uncompromised, and your monies and deposits remain safe,” the bank said on Saturday.

The DBS digital banking service page displayed a message, saying: “We are experiencing heavy traffic to our services. You will be redirected shortly. Alternatively, please log in later.” Apps for the bank’s PayLah! services said: “Sorry. This service isn’t available right now. Please try again later.”
