LONDON (Reuters) – British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said on Wednesday his government will introduce emergency legislation that will confirm that Rwanda is a safe country, after the Supreme Court ruled that the scheme to send asylum seekers there was unlawful.
“We will take the extraordinary step of introducing emergency legislation. This will enable parliament to confirm that with our new treaty, Rwanda is safe,” Sunak said at a press conference.
“It will ensure that people cannot further delay flights by bringing systemic challenges in our domestic courts, and stop our policy being repeatedly blocked.”
