(Bloomberg) — A bipartisan delegation of US senators led by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer arrived in China on Saturday, amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Beijing.
The group’s plane landed early afternoon in Shanghai, according to state broadcaster CGTN. Schumer is set to hold talks with senior officials in the city before heading to Beijing, where the delegation is seeking to meet with President Xi Jinping.
The delegation will raise issues including human rights, fentanyl and the investment climate for US businesses in China, Bloomberg reported this week. China’s Foreign Ministry said earlier that it welcomes the visit by Schumer and hopes to increase dialogue and communication between the legislative bodies of the two countries.
