Netanyahu Recovering in Hospital After Complaining of Dizziness

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he’s feeling better after complaining of dizziness and receiving hospital treatment, following a day in the sun during an intense heat wave.

(Bloomberg) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he’s feeling better after complaining of dizziness and receiving hospital treatment, following a day in the sun during an intense heat wave.

“Yesterday, I spent time with my wife in the Sea of Galilee in the sun, without water, without a hat — not a good idea,” Netanyahu said in a video statement released Saturday. “Thank God, I feel extremely well.”

Netanyahu, 73, was taken to the Sheba Medical Center near Tel Aviv, according to a statement from his office. He’ll stay in the hospital overnight on doctors’ recommendations, and the normal Sunday cabinet meeting will be delayed until Monday, his office said.

The Likud Party he leads released a statement soon after the prime minister went to the hospital, saying the “initial assessment is dehydration.” Netanyahu had “complained of mild dizziness” on Saturday following the trip to the vacation spot. He went to the hospital on his doctor’s recommendation.

Israel joined Europe over the weekend enduring a scorching heat wave. The prime minister in his statement urged Israelis to “spend less time in the sun, drink more water.”

He also thanked the medical team that examined him.

In October, Netanyahu was taken to a Jerusalem hospital, just before the last election, after feeling chest pains at a synagogue.

Netanyahu is Israel’s longest-serving prime minister, elected to a total of five terms, the first in 1996. His current far-right government is pushing an initiative to diminish the power of the judiciary, a plan that’s drawn hundreds of thousands of protesters to the streets in recent months — with more demonstrations set for later Saturday around the nation.
