Ukraine Recap: Zelenskiy Attends Moldova Summit as Kyiv Attacked

(Bloomberg) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy unexpectedly joined European leaders at a European summit in Moldova as Kyiv was hit by a missile barrage overnight, the 19th such attack in the last month.

NATO foreign ministers will meanwhile discuss Ukraine’s bid to join the military alliance at a two-day meeting in Oslo, as a split is becoming apparent between Germany and France on prospective membership. While Paris is pushing for a concrete path, Berlin is urging caution.

Zelenskiy said that, short of full membership, Ukraine needs security guarantees in the run-up to next month’s NATO summit in Vilnius.

“I’d like to emphasize at the summit in Vilnius that the security guarantees on the way to NATO membership are needed in full,” Zelenskiy said at the meeting outside Chisinau, which included German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron.
