South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will probably announce changes to his cabinet this evening, City Press reported, citing people it didn’t identify.
The publication wrote than an insider privy to the processes said Ramaphosa had finalized his consultations and was now informing those who were being brought in, as well as those exiting, of his decisions.
Anticipation of a cabinet makeover have intensified after Ramaphosa secured a second term as president of the governing African National Congress in December, and a number of his allies were elected to senior positions in the party.
Deputy President David Mabuza tendered his resignation to parliament earlier this month ahead of the cabinet revamp. Ramaphosa said he needs time before making a final decision on appointing a deputy.
The vacant position of minister of public service and administration and the new position of electricity minister are among the roles to be filled. The president is also expected to name a new transport minister.
Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, who heads up the infrastructure office in the presidency and isn’t a lawmaker, has been touted as a candidate for the newly created portfolio of electricity minister.
