Mexico Top Court Justice Explains Why He’s a Hard-Core Swiftie

Mexico Supreme Court Justice Arturo Zaldivar loves Taylor Swift and isn’t afraid to say it.

(Bloomberg) — Mexico Supreme Court Justice Arturo Zaldivar loves Taylor Swift and isn’t afraid to say it.

He posted a three-page statement to Twitter on Tuesday titled “This is why I like Taylor Swift,” in response to criticisms that he listens to the American pop star to “gain popularity on social media.”

Zaldivar frequently tweets about Swift. When she announced dates earlier this month for her sold-out Eras Tour in Mexico, he tweeted, “Finally, we’re ready!” Later, he said he’d registered for Ticketmaster’s “Verified Fan” ticket sale. That prompted some online users to suggest there were surely better ways for him to spend his time.

“I listen to Taylor Swift because her music, like life itself, is full of sensitive and moving stories about the human condition that we can all relate to,” Zaldivar wrote. “I like Taylor Swift because her music is a cry of rebellion in a world where women are expected to be silent.”

Zaldivar, who presided over the Supreme Court in Mexico when it decriminalized abortion in 2021, is far from Swift’s only high-profile fan in Latin America. Chile President Gabriel Boric, also a self-proclaimed Swiftie, recently said he wrote to the singer asking her to include Chile in her concert tour stops. So far, the artist has confirmed dates in Mexico, Argentina and Brazil.
